Exotac nanoSTRIKER Firestarter

Exotac nanoSTRIKER Firestarter Exotac nanoSTRIKER Firestarter

The Exotac nanoSTRIKER is very small, very durable ferrocerium firestarter. In fact it is likely the smallest and most durable firestarter available anywhere. The collapsible device measures only 3.3″ closed but is easily unscrewed and assembled into a highly capable rod with striker. The Exotac website has some excellent diagrams and videos about the nanoSTRIKER. The nanoSTRIKER is an excellent choice for EDC or a Bug-Out-Bag / Evac-Pack but we’ve also found them perfect for a small survival kit in the buttstock of our M1As.

TEOTWAWKI Torch (Flashlight) Kit

The Brits call them torches but this is a great post on this member’s flashlight choices.

TEOTWAWKI News Excerpt:

My EDC torch is a Surefire 6P clone: The body is bored for 18mm cells so I use 18650 Li-Ion cells in it. The LED module is Malkoff M61, 260 lumens for 2 hours. It’s compact and is actually shorter than the Mini Maglite.

Mora Knife #1 Classic

Mora Knife #1 ClassicMora Knife #1 Classic

There is likely no better knife for $13.50 than the Mora #1 Classic, made in Sweden. The blade is 4 inches with a straight, slightly clipped design made of carbon steel. The handle is red birch and also 4 inches for a total length just under 8 inches. The knife ships with a decent black plastic sheath that is totally serviceable. This is the same knife carried by Cody Lundin on Duel Survival.

Pico-Pen

Pico-PenPico-Pen

The Pico-Pend may actually be TOO SMALL for some people, but it makes an excellent primary (or backup) pen for EDC. The Pico-Pen is only 3 inches long and a mere 1/4 ounce in weight but the stainless steel construction ensures it will last forever. And the magnetic cap is wicked cool, allowing easy one-handed operation from the split ket ring. It also comes in a really nice box.

“Split Pea” Lighter from CountyComm

"Split Pea" Lighter from CountyComm“Split Pea” Lighter

This is likely the world’s smallest production lighter and we are apt to believe that statement. We carry the Split Peanut on our keychains for EDC and they work very well. The construction is excellent and they are bomb-proof units. The lighter uses standard fuel (and gasoline in a pinch) and has a good seal so fuel does not evaporate, allowing you to carry as needed without running dry. The Split Pea is excellent for a B.O.B. and other packs as a backup / additional fire source.

Best EDC Tweezers

Mil-Spec TweezersMil-Spec Tweezers

You will find these tweezers on all of our keychains as well as in each of our medical kits. These are simply the best tweezers ever and they are Made In U.S.A. for our military (NSN: 3740-01-474-7377). Each unit is made from a single piece of stainless steel, resulting in robust design with perfect alignment. The tips are very pointy almost sharp and able to dig out anything. Apparently, after Desert Storm, General Norman Schwarzkopf wrote: “I have never had a pair of tweezers in my life that was worth a damn. Now I do and I appreciate it very much.”

Know Your Locks

Lockpicking is a new hobby and interest here, so we pass along this video featuring Schuyler Towne, founder of OpenLocksport.com, who shares his passion for locks.
This video is part of a series called LearnableCourses.

We recently picked up the Bogata Picks from SerePick for EDC. Check back soon for a review of the Bogata Picks as well as more information on lockpicking.

Minotaur MTAC Holster

Minotaur MTAC HolsterMinotaur MTAC Holster

This is our daily (EDC) holster in which we carry a Glock 27. We also have a Minotaur for the Kel-tec P11 we recently acquired (for summer). We love this holster! In fact, we believe the Minotaur is simply the best IWB holster for concealed carry. It is well made, comfortable to wear, highly concealable, tuckable, easy to draw (and reholster) and holds up well to daily use. Plus Comp-Tac offers excellent customer service – we once broke a connector and they shipped us replacement parts and a new leather at no cost. While our holster drawer is literally overflowing from trial and error, this is the one we come back to almost everyday.

We discovered the Recluse Holster on OneInchGroup.com, a new daily read that we recommend! While our daily carry is Glock 27, we do sometimes pocket carry a S&W J-frame so this looks like a good option. We love the innovative design of the Recluse Holsters – it’s nice to see something totally new. We added this to our wishlist of holsters, which tends to grow quite long at times. .22LR Self Defense Ammo Tests

CCI Stinger 32gr from GoldenLoki.com
CCI Stinger 32gr

No one will call the .22LR round a “manstopper” but there are scenarios where you may find yourself with such a mouse gun in a defensive situation. At that moment, you will want to know that you have the best ammunition possible, given the small caliber. We found this excellent test from GoldenLoki.com that shows expansion for various .22LR ammo in ballistic gelatin. In fact, GoldenLoki.com has gel tests for a handful of pocket pistol rounds here.
